Why “Hackers?”

The people who naturally gravitate to careers in information security often do so out of a sense of duty to their community, to protect those who need it the most. Anyone whose base instinct is to protect and defend, and enjoys solving complex problems or puzzles, is exactly the kind of person we want and need in elected leadership at all levels of government.

Do not confuse hacker with criminal. Hackers find and implement creative, innovative, sometimes unconventional solutions to complex and intractable technical problems.

As technology increasingly plays a role in every aspect of our society, we need our elected officials to understand the fundamentals of tech and infosec, so they can help guide us to a safer, fairer, more private and more secure future with technology that supports the needs of all our citizens.
