Candidate endorsements FAQ
I’m a candidate, how do I get endorsed?
Elect More Hackers will endorse candidates whose answers to a lengthy questionnaire on cybersecurity, technology, freedom, and privacy topics align with the goals and ideals of the Elect More Hackers board of directors and endorsement committee.
Who can get an endorsement?
The project aims to practice transparency in every aspect of this process. Our questionnaire will be made available to candidates who can demonstrate they are registered to run for office in any United States jurisdiction.
An Elect More Hackers-endorsed candidate demonstrates a preference for technology policies that advance individual freedom; support the right to repair and control the electronic devices and products we own; oppose routine data collection, and abusive technology practices to collect and sell profiling data about individuals; seek to redress past and future cybercriminal activity; support workers’ rights, organized labor, and cybersecurity workforce development; and show proficiency in (and forward-thinking about) the technology, cybersecurity, data privacy, generative AI, and disinformation issues that our society is dealing with now -- and will confront in the future.
What does an endorsement get me?
Candidates who are awarded endorsement will be given a permalink to a document that includes the answers they provide to this questionnaire, as well as a QR code-enhanced Elect More Hackers logo that points to the permalink.
Endorsees may use this logo and QR code/permalink on campaign materials like signs, fliers, posters, and on their websites and social media accounts as a way to distinguish themselves from other candidates in their race.
The Elect More Hackers project may at some point in the future have a budget to award a small campaign contribution to endorsees, but the project has no funds to do that at this time.
However, if you’re interested in helping us fund candidates, we would welcome your donations that would fund our operations fully to enable us to begin that process.
Elect More Hackers is in the process of registering as a 501(c)4 nonprofit, and will be able to accept donations once that process is complete. If you have experience with that process, and want to help us, please let us know.
What other resources will you make available?
Endorsed candidates who are running for office for the first time may also request candidate training and support for their campaign. As resources are available, we will help you shape your campaign messaging, learn the basics of fundraising, and guide you to a successful outcome in your election. Hackers support our hacker family! We want you to win.
I’m ready to get started. Where do I begin?
If you are a registered candidate for elected office in any US jurisdiction, please fill out this form. When we've vetted your candidacy, we will send you the endorsement questionnaire.
Thank you for your interest, hacker!
